A People’s Guide to Building the New Economy

Event Details

Join us for a participatory workshop on building a new, cooperative economy! In this workshop we will demystify ‘the economy’, examine some of the key features of this economy and how they play out in our daily lives and communities, and learn about existing cooperative and community-led models and movements for housing, work, finance and land use that can help us create an economy that works for all.

This session is Part II of the ongoing Training Series: How You Can Start or Convert a Worker Cooperative. This training series will provide the basic skills and frameworks for you to start your own, or convert your current business, to a worker cooperative. All of the following sessions will be held at the Mayday Space at 176 St. Nicholas Ave, Bushwick, Brooklyn.

This series is hosted by NYC Network of Worker Cooperatives (NYCNOWC), the Community and Worker Ownership Project (CWOP) at the The Murphy Institute for Labor Studies at CUNY and The Mayday Space. The trainings are free, but we will ask for a suggested donation for those who are able in order to support the Mayday Space.

This series will be run in English.

Note: We will not be serving food. So please try to eat before the session if you can. Of course, you are also free to bring your own meal with you.

The next session in this series, “Business Model Canvas”, will be held at Mayday Space on July 25th from 6-9pm.

Groups that attend the July series will be invited to apply to a weekend long training in September. We suggest you attend this training with at least three people interested in starting a cooperative or converting a business. Applications for this event will be sent out soon, so make sure to hit “Going” or “Interested” on that event page if you want to participate. More details soon.
