Worker Cooperative 101: Basic Skills Training Series [English]

The NYC Network of Worker Coops, (NYCNOWC), as the trade association for worker-cooperatives in our city, has convened a Training Collective. We are 14 cooperative professionals with over 200 years of collective experience in cooperative membership, training, management, and development in cooperatives and support organizations. Our goal is to teach and promote best practices from our experiences to businesses and start-ups to those who want to work according to cooperative principles.

Course Description:

Through these workshops, you will learn best practices for cooperative finances, management and incorporation.  You will walk away with better tools to strengthen your existing cooperative, turn your business into a cooperative or start a new one.  

The workshops include:

  1. Introduction to Cooperatives

  2. Building a New Economy – A basic framework

  3. Business Model Canvas – A business plan on one page

  4. Basic Financial Projections

  5. Facilitation and Democratic Decision Making

  6. Governance and Management for cooperatives

  7. Understanding Basic Cooperative Finances

  8. Forming a Legal Entity

We will run this 8 workshop full series once in English, and once in Spanish.

The English dates are on May 17th, 22nd, 24th, 29th, 31st and June: 5th, 7th, 12th

This series will be in partnership with The Consortium for Worker Education.  All workshops will be from 6pm – 9pm at The Consortium for Worker Education at  83 Maiden Lane in downtown Manhattan.

You must register for the workshop series in order to attend.  To register, please click the button above. This series is being offered for free, but we ask for a suggested donation of $5 – $50 per class if possible.  No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
