Membership Manual Basics: How to Develop and Improve your Membership Manual

Event Details

Membership manuals include all policies that workers owners agree will govern the day-to-day operations of their cooperative. Yet, many cooperatives may not have one, do not regularly update their manual, or do not adjust the manual to changing conditions in the cooperative. This may lead to various issues.

In this workshop, we will:

  • explain the role and importance of membership manuals,Â
  • highlight common problems that membership manuals can help resolve,
  • share sample membership manual provisions andÂ
  • collectively discuss scenarios and best practices cooperatives can use to improve their work.

We will discuss how your manual can be useful for thinking through internal conflicts, division of benefits and labor, leadership development and other topics.

Please note: Childcare, English-Spanish interpretation, and food will be provided. Location is ADA accessible. All attendees will be checked in at first floor lobby – please bring an ID.

This program is facilitated by Take Root Justice. Hosted in collaboration with NYC Network for Worker Cooperatives.
