Board of Directors Nominations

DEADLINE IS THURS NOVEMBER 4TH

We are asking you, our members, for recommendations and nominations to fill three seats on our board that is slated to term out in November.  

As a member of the NYC NOWC board, you will be part of a predominantly worker-owner led board that is stewarding exciting organizational transitions to meet the needs of staff and co-op members during these times. It’s a rewarding role for the right person. It would require 6-10 hours a month of commitment depending on the level of capacity and involvement you want to sign up for.  

We will be accepting recommendations and nominations for the NYC NOWC board until Thurs, November 4th. After nominations, NYC NoWC members will vote and elect on board members by November. Please let us know if you’d be interested or know someone who you think would be a great addition to our board. Self-nominations are accepted for consideration.   

Board Commitments:

  • Board terms are two (2) years from January 2022-December 2023 Attending our monthly
  • 3 hour board meetings
  • Participate at Board Retreat (more info)
  • Engaged in at least 1-2 of the following board committees listed below: 1)Development/Fundraising
    2) Executive committee
    3) Audit
    4) Human Resources
    5) Budget
    6) Elections/Governance
    6) Ad Hoc Committees: Wordsmith & Conflict Res
  • Aid staff in popularizing NYC NoWC resources and membership
  • Build worker co-op power across NYC and beyond
    1) Support Advocacy Council call to action activities
    2) Support in the NYC NOWC Annual Meeting
    3) Fundraising

We are Actively Looking For:

  • NYC-based Black, Indigenous, People of Color Worker-Owners
  • Experience with Policy
  • Experience with strategic and abundant fundraising & grant writing experience
  • Elders
  • Lawyers
  • Experience with Strategic Capacity Building
  • Farmers, Land Workers, and Food Sovereignty Organizers
  • Language Justice advocates with experience organizing multilingual spaces
  • Friends of the solidarity economy and other local social justice movements

Timeline

  • Oct 25 – Nov 4 — Candidate nominations open
  • Nov 4 -5 — Check In with Nominees
  • Nov 7 — Nominees must submit Candidate information
  • Nov 9 — Ballot Goes Out for Voting
